The Stoning Of Soraya M.
I just saw the movie, The Stoning of Soraya M, last night.
It was an incredibly powerful movie! It tells the story of Soraya, a beautiful Iranian woman from a small town in Iran. They are all Muslims and as such follow the Islam (false) religion very closely.
"Based on an incredible true story, this powerful tale of a village's persecution of an innocent woman becomes both a daring act of witness and a compelling parable about mob rule. Who will join forces with the plot against her, who will surrender to the mob, and who will dare to stand up for what is right. It is both a classic fable of good and evil and inspiring tribute to the many fighting against injustice all around the world.
Starring Shohreh Aghdashloo, Mozhan MarnĂ² and James Caviezel."
The book and movie are the result of a promise kept. Minutes before Soraya's horrific stoning to death, her aunt promises Soraya that she would tell her daughters and the world the truth about her life and death-- "the world MUST know"
I remember one part where Soraya said she was not afraid of death but of dying and the pain of the stoning. She barely cried, even when she learned of her impending death. She was in a state of shock, yet maintained strength and grace, especially for her children. It was not until the second stone was thrown, by her husband, with such brute force that when it hit her forehead, her head and upper body swung back hard, as far as possible, and then came forward again with blood gushing down, that she began to cry. It was then, in that moment, in the intense pain, when she fully realized the reality of what was happening to her, what she was about to experience and die from. It was then that I began to cry.
Soraya REALLY existed and really lived. She was a good woman and mother. She didn't deserve to die like that. It breaks my heart that this happens to women (and sometimes men) all over the world in countries where Islam is followed.
